Beach Huts Togetherness

Together on International Friendship Day

The ‘International Day of Friendship’ is on 30 July. It’s a celebration the United Nations says is all about “sharing the human spirit through friendship”. That’s a pretty good idea in anyone’s book. It’s also something that every beach hut owner will already know about.  Let’s find out the meaning of ‘Together At Your Beach Hut on International Friendship Day’.

Friends come in many different shapes and sizes. Bonds will have built over the years or sometimes straight out of the blue! Whether your friends are from your childhood, school, college or university, workplace, or shared leisure pursuits, each and every one is a special person in your life.

Big ideas

The International Day of Friendship began in 2011 when the UN General Assembly wanted to inspire peace efforts and build bridges between people and communities.

Beach hut owners are often gregarious people. They LOVE entertaining at their ‘home-from-home’ by the sea (or as we like to call them ‘property on the prom’). With this special day falling at the end of July it is one of the best celebrations for putting your hut to good use, especially as it should be the height of the summer.

July 30 falls on a Thursday this year, meaning that you’ll have the relative quiet of a weekday to make the most of things.

Celebrate ‘We’ Time!

A great thing about being friends is that you know each other well enough to make providing food and drink something of a breeze. Whether it’s a new diet, being on the wagon or simply being something of a fussy eater, you’ll know what to have on offer when it comes to summer catering.

A spot of lunch, an afternoon tea or an evening of grazing as you soak in the dusk and twilight summer warmth all paint a picture of relaxation in each other’s company. Of course, any beach hut gathering doesn’t just need to be about friends – you might even want to invite your family along too!

Making new friends

Being a beach hut owner makes you a part of a very special community of like-minded folk who no doubt fell for the charm of these ‘homes’ by the sea in the same way you did.

So rather than a casual nod when you see them, why not take the opportunity and excuse of the Day to take things further by getting to know your beach hut neighbours. Just like where you live, being part of a community means that you can find new friends that can make spending time at your hut even more enjoyable. On top of that, if you’re a relative ‘hutter-newbie’ you can gain valuable advice in how to maintain your hut, keep it secure and where to obtain the general bits and bobs that make life easier.

Some ‘Me’ time

For those who live a more solitary life, whether by choice or circumstance, a beach hut can be a brilliant best friend. Somewhere/one that can help you relax and leave the troubles of the day behind you. A quiet space in amongst everyone where you can choose to sit and watch the world go by whilst being open to creating some new ‘Hut’ friends.
