Beach Huts World Kindness Day

Beach Huts World Kindness Day

Celebrate World Kindness Day

… At your Beach Hut

Each year on 13 November World Kindness Day is celebrated and there’s not really anything to argue against there!

The purpose of the event is to highlight the importance of random acts of kindness and the way that simple actions can have the effect of ‘paying it forward’.

By encouraging people to be kind to each other by definition helps to promote and spread kindness all around in our day-to-day lives.

So how can beach hut owners join in and do their bit?

Global and Local

World Kindness Day started in 1998 and many countries took part including Canada, Australia, Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates. Since then it has spread around the world and here at home Kindness Day UK plays its own important role.

For instance, past events have included the not-for-profit organisation handing out 10,000 free chocolate bars at London train stations. It encouraged a ‘Text Wave’ that swept the country. Many schools now take part in the celebrations and each year the whole idea gets bigger and bigger.

The Kind Hut

Of course the idea of sharing and togetherness goes hand-in-hand with owning a beach hut. Although the little home-from-home can offer solitude and quiet, we all know that huts truly come alive when they act as a place for people to gather.

It’s just as important to remember to show kindness to those close to you as is it to people you don’t know.  So it’s a perfect excuse for throwing a bash for loved ones at the hut – as if you really need one…

However, as this year’s World Kindness Day falls in midweek it might not be a day that friends and extended family can come along – but don’t let that stop you! Setting up a tea or coffee station and giving away freshly made brews to passers-by on the prom could be an unexpected treat for random people, especially perhaps for those in need. All it would cost is to keep the kettle on the boil and buying some reusable takeaway cups. If you’re feeling crafty you could even knit some cosy holders for them!

Simple Act – Huge Impact

It might sound silly, but hugging is known for making you feel better. The simple act produces serotonin giving you an instant boost to your mood. So what better gesture can you make than setting a ‘free hugs here’ stall at your hut?

When you hug someone for at least 20 seconds or more the feel-good hormone oxytocin is released. This generates a strong connection between the hugger and hug-ee. Oxytocin has been shown to boost the immune system and reduce stress levels.  If you want to see just how much of a difference this random act of kindness can make, check out the Free Hugs Campaign.

However you choose to take part in World Kindness Day, just remember – even the smallest of things can make a huge difference to someone.
